Ski Guides (ski touring) course

Outcome: to begin to guide clients on day ski tours—away from patrolled areas—in Kosciuszko’s backcountry area in the Australian Alps.

Provider: Outdoor Recreation at TAFE WESTERN—Lithgow campus

Dates: 8-day course over two blocks:

7–10 Aug 2015 (Fri, Sat, Sun,Mon) and 28–31 Aug 2015.

Location: Kosciuszko National Park, various sites accessed on day trips and a possible overnight trip.

Number: 6 people                        Cost: $1725, course only.

Additional costs will apply: ski hire, food, accommodation, park entry, transport etc. Please email stephen.curtain@tafensw.edu.au for an approximate price.

Prerequisites: students must already have some downhill skiing ability. Prior to entry into the course students must demonstrate that they have done a minimum of 2 days downhill skiing on resort prior to commencement of the course.

Students must also have the following units prior to entry into the course: SISONAV302A – Apply navigation skills in an intermediate environment, SISOOP306A Interpret weather conditions in the field. (Students that have not completed the weather unit can undertake this unit through online study prior to commencement of the course for a nominal fee.)
