Almost every community environmental organisation struggles to get the funds they need to do their work effectively. We’re always looking for new ideas for fundraising, and this ‘walk the border’ idea stands out as a great initiative. It’s a fundraiser for the Conservation Council ACT Region and also a walk through some wonderful country.
It’s a 21 day journey along the 300 kilometre border of the ACT. The organisers say ‘The route will take in some of the ACT’s roughest and most beautiful country, including the source of the ACT’s water supply’. The walkers are currently about half way through the walk.
You can find full details on the walk below (including details on donating or joining the walk).
This is a walk that crosses ancient pathways and defines the ACT, the “Walk the Border, ACT – A Watershed Walk” is a fund-raising event to support the Conservation Council ACT Region, the peak conservation organisation for Canberra and the Capital Region.
The ACT’s border is 306 kms long and crosses a variety of the ACT’s ecosystems, from the majestic alpine forests to diverse lowlands.
The walk is being led by the Conservation Council’s president, Rod Griffiths who will be joined by a range of other fund-raisers, who can join the walk for part of a stage or any number of stages.
The walk will take 21 days commencing on 7 October 2017 from Hall, following the border in a clockwise direction. The route will take in some of the ACT’s roughest and most beautiful country, including the source of the ACT’s water supply. Yet many of the stages will involve easy and accessible components allowing for varied involvement by participants.
Fundraisers on the walk can join for either for a part day, a full day, or over a number of days as the border does have a range of access points where people could join or leave the walk. The specific stages and a description of them are under the Walk Schedule page.
To succeed the walk needs fundraisers, logistic support and donations. If you can help the Walk the Border ACT – A Watershed Walk register your interest through register here or contact us through the Contact us page.
