Mountain Journal has often reported on the proposal to build a cable car up kunanyi/ Mt Wellington in Hobart. With the recent passage of legislation which will facilitate the development, the campaign against the cable car is entering an important stage. There will be a public forum this Sunday calling on the government to stop the development.
This Sunday 26 November at 2pm.
At The Duke
192 Macquarie Street, Hobart
Believe it or not, the Liberals and Labor have voted to hand over the pinnacle of Mount Wellington to a private tourism developer.
Tasmanians love our wild mountain kunanyi. No other captial city can boast a true wilderness it its backyard. The last thing locals and visitors want is a tourism operator privatising the pinnacle of a Hobart icon which should always remain in public hands.
This forum will bring together community leaders (our special guests are Jason Turvey from Respect the Mountain – No Cable Car, Ted Cutlan from Residents Opposed to the Cable Car and Sophie Underwood from Planning Matters Tasmania) to discuss this important issue and hear the community’s views.
Hosted by the Denison Greens.
We’d love to see you there!
