This events listing page  is very simple: events are listed in chronological order by month (so you may need to scroll down to find the current month) and not sorted by category or location.

The listings cover community and cultural events (the less commercial the better) and any events revolving around human powered or gravity aided adventure in and around the mountains country of south eastern Australia and Tasmania.

Ski de Femme

This free cross country ski event for women is held annually at  Falls Creek. In 2015 it’s on Saturday 8th August. It includes an instruction session (classical or skating) in the morning, followed by a fun race.

The Birkebeiner Classic (Falls Creek)

Cross country ski race at Falls Creek. There are three different distances – ten kilometres, five kilometres and two and a half kilometres.


June 1

Falls Creek Ice Plunge

Join Falls Creek locals as they take a winter plunge into Rocky Valley Dam to celebrate the first day of winter to pay homage to the snow gods for a good snow season.

Peaks Challenge at Falls Creek (235 kilometre loop by bike, with three major climbs Tawonga Gap, Mount Hotham and Falls Creek).

NB: this is a huge event, with around 2,000 riders attending, and the road over the Bogong High Plains is closed on the sunday.

Bogong Conquestathon

This is an annual walk up Mt Bogong, held over the Labor Day weekend. It is a long day and strenuous: it involves a 20km round trip, with a climb of 1,300 metres. It is organised  by the Upper Kiewa Valley Lions Club.
